So I’ve been living in Tucson for over a month and I realized that I need a change of pace from usual law school get togethers. It’s not that I don’t like bar-hopping but the sentimentalist in me looks back to the days of old coffee house rock from my high school days and I had to find somewhere to satisfy my craving.

After about twenty minutes I found the place nestled in just past cherry and speedway. I cam inside and it had the usual artistic flavor of most coffee shops. Its the kind of place where an academic/mucisian/writer/scholar can feel right at home. I ordered a peppermint mocha which the restaurant made by dumping all ingredients into a cup and then steaming the whole product instead of syrup, espresso, milk. It was ok, a little sweet and not much bite but at least the espresso wasn’t burned. With my drink in hand and law books ready I readied myself for an evening of music.

The first singer had good music in terms what what he played on the guitar, but his voice was badly controlled and slightly off pitch. Come to think of that, I think that’s required for coffee house rock. The second person got up to read a poem that he wrote after being in a coma. He says he wrote a letter to himself right before his accident. Commentary to follow:

Not bad I suppose. He talked about how he used to have wahtever he wanted and then had an acacident. He sings a song by “slug atmosphere.” About the same thing happenning every day. Not bad.

I am of the unshakeable conclusion that my fellow artists are sweepingly liberal. Why is this? Who don’t more conservatives try to express their ideas of tradition and form? I know this is not the case but I consistently feel like I stand alone in a society that only allows people to become official “artists” if they have an activist slant. Maybe I can take steps toward changing things. All in all, the open mic was a good experience, one that I’ve missed and I will definitely follow up.

For those readers who want an update on my book, it is still being revised and the second book is in progress. Additionally I have blocked out the plot for all five books until the end of any major inolvement of my characters in politics. I am thinking about writing a prequel chronicling the career of Valestor and Mathair or an even earlier prequel about the Lendarei heros Anthanias and Ibraim, but one thing at a time. Yes?

For reasons that don’t need to be explained I found myself in deep depression over the last two days. Sometimes those problems come along that seem unsurmountable. I, thankfully, found myself praying that God would restore my soul and teach me to overcome my difficulties. He reminded me that only four years ago I was in the exact same place with the exact same person making the exact same decision for the exact same reasons. At the time I was heartbroken (to a lesser extent) but I knew what I was doing was right. My decision was the correct one this time as well and I realized that if God could resurrect a valuable relationship after years of no contact he could do it again if it was his will. For now I pray for the memory of God’s actions and that God would let my grief subside in time. I will be fine, of course, but this has been truly refreshing as only grief can be. As I said not to long ago on my facebook, God is good all the time.

I was skimming facebook and I realized just how much people around me are changing. I had the following revelations in scripture and thought about posting them but I realized I only wanted people to read them if they truly wanted to see where my scripture study has taken me lately. Consequently they will only appear on my blog.

The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

Sheol and Abbaddon lie open before the Lord, how much more human hearts.

The human mind plans the way, but the Lord directs teh steps.

Tose who are attentive to a matter will prosper, and happy are those who trust in the Lord.

Sometimes there is a way that seems to be right, but in the end it is the way to death.

These are hard scriptures to apply but simple to understand. Sometimes God brings hardship so we can learn how to trust him and sometimes what seems like a derailing of our plans is God saving us from death. I pray God teaches me to apply these verses and teaches me to trust him in everything. I pray that God’s plan for me is not filled entirely with pain. I pray that those I care about will find happiness and spiritual fulfillment. I pray that God forgives me for my lack of faith.

Most of all I pray that I learn how to trust God.

P.S. there has been waaay too much to catch regular readers up on about things happenning. I’ll try to be more faithful from now on though.

Well well well the year is coming to a close and I am as excited as ever. Those of you who have said you would like to be a test audience will be happy to know that I am running off the first of the test copies thursday afteroon. Hopefully in the following weeks I can get them distributed to everyone who was interested in reading them. In addition I have written half of the plot synopsis for the second book. It is a much more arduous affair as the book will be much larger in scope, storyline, and intensity. I look at it as the difference between “the hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings”. My first book introduces the society and characters, but the real story begins five years later. I can’t wait to begin writing and I hope you enjoy the first story in what I hop will be an epic series.
