Academic Writing – Academic writing is by far the simplest to capture. There are strict guidelines and, if you follow them, you can do whatever else you wish. The rules are as follows.

• No contractions.
• Third-Person.
• No slang.

And really, that’s it. You can use excessive verbage (a pet-peeve of mine), or you can be as taciturn as Hemmingway. You can use humor, you can use anecdote, and the list is endless.
